Karridale Pinot Noir

Our first ever Pinot is here...

It has always been our dream to grow Pinot Noir on our patch of dirt in Karridale as we have the perfect little spot on the hill behind the farmhouse. It faces east so it gets the morning sun while being shaded from the peak afternoon warmth. Creating an even cooler microclimate for this delicate variety.

So in 2018, we grafted five different Pinot clones - Burgundian Clones 386 + 114 + 115 - Sparkling Clones 222 2325 - on to Sauvignon Blanc rootstock. Each chosen for their different traits and to give us the potential to play and highlight the varietal characteristics.

In 2020 the bushy vines delivered some delicate but plush fruit which was lovingly hand-picked by our team. 40% of the fruit left as whole bunches and cold-soaked for 24 hours before wild fermentation in an open fermentor. It was gently hand plunged with minimal pumping and lived in French oak barrels for 6 months.

Creating this delicate and fruit-driven that is light, bright and beautiful. A red that is perfect for cool summer nights and the ideal match for your Christmas feast. It has pretty aromas of crushed rose petals and cranberries.  Then glides on to your palate with delicate tannins, fresh acidity and flavours of sour cherry, tar and a twist of Campari. This first vintage is super small-batch, so we encourage you to get your hands on some now and we can't wait to hear what you think of our Karridale Pinot Noir.
